From Mayberry to Mars, these famous people all taught English: Andy Griffith, Sting, Gene Simmons, Conan O’Brien, Stephen King, Bill O’Reilley, and Matt Damon. While we may not be famous, the Walhalla High School English Department is just as varied as these well-known stars!
We are dedicated to promoting literacy, requiring students read, write, and think analytically, while working with texts in all genres. Studying literature from Beowulf (700 AD) to Rules of Civility (2011), our students’ experiences with texts prepare them for their future endeavors. Diverse texts drive our instruction to ensure that creativity is fostered, process is valued, and mastery is obtainable. Our department of ten boasts a combined 120 years’ experience, with a median of 16 years among our veteran and new teachers. In our department, 70% of teachers have advanced degrees (MEd and PhD), 90% have certificate endorsements, and two are National Board Certified. We are advocates for students, for literacy, and for Walhalla High School. Go Razorbacks!
